Mendocino County Public Health is committed to ensuring the health and safety of all residents. One critical focus is preventing injuries from motor vehicle crashes among children ages 0-12.

Free Car Seat Safety Evaluations

We offer free, one-on-one car seat safety appointments for Mendocino County residents with children ages 0–12.

Certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians (CPST) provide:

  • Personalized assistance installing car seats correctly.
  • Education on car seat selection based on your child's age, weight, and height.
  • Checks for recalls, visible damage, and expiration dates.
  • Tips on transitioning to the next type of car seat.
  • State laws and best practices for child passenger safety.
  • Answers to your questions!

How to Prepare for Your Appointment

  • Plan for a 60-minute session.
  • Bring your car seat instruction manual and vehicle owner’s manual.
  • Know your child’s current weight and height.
  • Bring your child and, if possible, another caregiver to assist.
  • Ensure the car seat area is clean and accessible.
