Notice: The scheduled March 15th, and the May 17th, 2022, assessment and balloting process referenced in the letter dated February 11, 2022, have been postponed indefinitely (six months to a year). Check this webpage for future updates.

The County has been working with Sherwood Firewise Communities and Brooktrails Board to keep the Firco Road and Willits Creek Trail cleared of vegetation and ready for emergency use only as emergency access routes. The Firco Road was used effectively during the Oak Fire and provided for a successful and safe evacuation of the area. Everyone in this area of the Sherwood Road corridor received a letter from the Mendocino County Department of Transportation regarding the process to create a zone of benefit to fund these projects into the future. Some of you may have heard that the process, which has been supported by the Board of Supervisors all along, has been put on hold while we work through the Local Agency Formation Commission (LAFCO) process. This delay of 6-8 months will not affect the usefulness of these roads for the intended purpose. Working together, we will continue to pursue this path as well as look at other options to provide safe and secure access routes to the people of the Sherwood Road corridor.
