Absentee Ballots
Vote By Mail (Absentee) Ballot
Per Assembly Bill 37 (AB37), all active registered voters will receive a Vote-By-Mail (VBM) ballot in the mail for all Elections. Regular VBM Ballots go out 29-days prior to Election Day, to the mailing address that is on the voter's registration.
In order to vote in-person, at your assigned polling location, you must surrender the un-voted ballot and envelope mailed to you and ask a Poll Woker to issue you a precinct ballot. You will be required to vote a Provisional Ballot if you are unable to surrender your un-voted ballot and envelope.
The text of the AB 37 can be found at Bill Text - AB-37 Elections: vote by mail ballots.
Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act (UOCAVA), does allow US citizens who are either active Military or living overseas to receive a Vote-By-Mail (VMB). For more information on this process visit: Military & Overseas Voters :: California Secretary of State
