Background:

Bernie Norvell serves as Mendocino County’s Fourth District Supervisor, representing Fort Bragg and the communities of the county’s north coast. Before joining the Board of Supervisors, Bernie served on the Fort Bragg City Council and as Mayor of Fort Bragg, where Bernie developed a reputation for being accessible, practical, and willing to address difficult issues directly.

Bernie’s approach to public service is grounded in listening to residents, working collaboratively, and finding realistic solutions that reflect the unique needs of Mendocino County. Bernie brings an independent, hands-on approach to county government and remains committed to transparency, accountability, and responsible stewardship of public funds.

The Fourth District is shaped by the Pacific Ocean and by generations of fishing, logging, ranching, farming, tourism, and small-business families. Bernie believes these industries, together with the district’s natural resources and close-knit communities, are essential to its identity and future.

Objective:

Bernie’s primary objective is to ensure that the Fourth District has a strong and effective voice on the Mendocino County Board of Supervisors. Bernie believes county government must recognize and respond to the needs of every community it serves—from the coast to the inland valleys and the county’s most rural areas. Mendocino County is not the County of Ukiah; it is a large and diverse county whose decisions, services, and resources must fairly represent all of its residents.

Bernie is focused on strengthening public safety, expanding behavioral health and addiction services, maintaining responsible budgets, addressing housing and encampment concerns, improving infrastructure, protecting water resources, and supporting sustainable economic development.

Whether meeting with residents, visiting local programs, working alongside county employees, or advocating at the state and federal levels, Bernie’s goal is to provide responsive leadership and deliver practical, meaningful results for the Fourth District and all the people of Mendocino County.
