2024 Gold Workplace Health Achievement – American Heart Association

The American Heart Association has recognized the County of Mendocino with a prestigious national Gold Award for its outstanding commitment to employee health and well-being. This recognition comes as part of the 2024 Workforce Well-being Scorecard™ assessment, a tool that evaluates how effectively organizations support their employees' mental health, address burnout, promote financial well-being, and advance health equity, among other factors. In 2024, 453 organizations across the country participated in the Scorecard evaluation. The American Heart Association celebrates the County of Mendocino for its dedication to fostering a workplace that prioritizes the health and well-being of its employees, demonstrating core values of wellness and care.


2023 Silver Workplace Health Achievement – American Heart Association

The County of Mendocino was honored with Silver level recognition for completion of the 2023 Workforce Well-being Scorecard.  In 2023, 492 organizations completed the Scorecard, with 33% achieving Silver status.  The Scorecard brings together the latest research and insights from industry experts to help business leaders build a science-backed, employee-centric culture of health and well-being. The tool allows employers to evaluate how their policies and procedures compare to leading best practices in areas such as mental health support, addressing burnout, financial well-being, health equity considerations and more.  


2022 Silver Workplace Health Achievement – American Heart Association

The County of Mendocino was awarded Silver level recognition for its commitments to employee health and well-being as measured in the American Heart Association's 2022 Workforce Well-being Scorecard.  The Scorecard evaluates factors such as mental health policies, organizational wellbeing strategies to address burnout, health equity measures, employee financial resources and more to provide a comprehensive assessment of an organization’s culture of health. 381 organizations completed the Scorecard in 2022, and all organizations were recognized with an achievement level of platinum (9%), gold (45%), silver (32%), bronze (9%) or completer (5%).


2021 Bronze Workplace Health Achievement – American Heart Association

In 2021, the Mendocino County Working on Wellness (MCWOW) program was honored with the Bronze Workplace Health Achievement Award by the American Heart Association. The County of Mendocino is one of more than 450 organizations nationwide that completed the Index assessment. Of the organizations that participated, nearly 93% earned Gold (43%), Silver (31%), or Bronze (19%) status.  While we are proud of this achievement, the shift from in-office work to remote work due to the global pandemic presented unique challenges for our wellness program. The transition required us to adapt our initiatives to meet the needs of a dispersed workforce, which impacted overall participation and engagement. 


2020 Silver Workplace Health Achievement – American Heart Association

The County of Mendocino was awarded the prestigious Silver level recognition from the American Heart Association's 2020 Workplace Health Achievement Index.  According to the AHA Index, 29% of the 776 organizations that completed the assessment received a Silver-level recognition. This translates to approximately 225 organizations nationwide achieving this distinction.  This national honor highlights the County's significant efforts to create a culture of health in the workplace. The Index evaluates workplace health programs based on organizational best practices and employee health data, with studies showing that worksites with strong health programs and leadership support foster a more engaged, healthier, and productive workforce.  


2019 Silver Workplace Health Achievement – American Heart Association

The American Heart Association’s Workplace Health Achievement Index recognizes the County of Mendocino as one of over 900 organizations that are investing in the health of their workforce and workplace. The County of Mendocino was one of 12 counties to receive the Silver Award nationwide. The Workplace Health Achievement Index is a web-based portal that fuses health content, personal health data and consumer engagement opportunities evaluate the overall quality and comprehensiveness of their workplace health programs.  Recognition designations are determined by data submitted, as well as the overall heart health score of their employees. The American Heart Association, a global force for longer, healthier lives, commends the County of Mendocino for their commitment to creating a workplace environment built on healthy core values.


2018 Silver Workplace Health Achievement – American Heart Association

The County of Mendocino was recognized, as well as 4 other counties nationwide, with the Silver Award from the American Heart Association for taking significant steps to build a culture of health in the Workplace. The Workplace Health Achievement Index is a scientific, evidenced-based instrument that rates and recognizes workplace health programs and workforce heart health. The American Heart Association created the Index with its CEO Roundtable members, a leadership collaborative of more than 40 CEOs from some of America’s largest companies who are committed to applying evidence-based approaches to improve their employees’ overall health. 


2018 Challenge Award Winner – California State Association of Counties

The County of Mendocino is recognized by the California State Association of Counties as one of 15 counties to receive the 2018 Challenge Award. These unique awards recognize the innovative and creative spirit of California county governments as they find innovative, effective and cost‐saving ways to provide programs and services to their citizens.  The programs receiving the 2018 Challenge Awards exemplify the outstanding work that can be found throughout California’s 58 counties.


2015 Gold Fit Friendly Worksite – American Heart Association

The County of Mendocino was recognized by the American Heart Association with the Gold “Fit Friendly Worksite award for 2015.  Gold Award recipients are awarded to worksites that fulfill criteria such as offering employees physical activity support, increasing healthy eating options at work, promoting a wellness culture, and adhering to a strict tobacco policy; as well as implementing at least six of the physical activities, two of the nutrition activities and one of culture activities.


2013 Platinum Fit Friendly Worksite – American Heart Association
 
The County of Mendocino was recognized by the American Heart Association with the Platinum “Fit Friendly Worksite” award. Platinum award winners must meet criteria such as offering employees a number of physical activity and nutrition programs at work, as well as promoting wellness within the workplace. Recipients must also demonstrate at least one behavior change specified by the American Heart Association, achieve at least one cost savings outcome, or have achieved a positive return on investment as documented by supporting data. 

2013 Achievement Award – KeenanWell

The County of Mendocino was recognized by KeenanWell for improving the health and well-being of its employees by promoting and supporting a culture of wellness in the workplace.  The award was presented to a select group of agencies who have initiated best-practice programs to improve the health and well-being of their employees by promoting and supporting a culture of wellness in the workplace.

 


2013 Gold Fit Company Award - Healthyroads

The Healthyroads Fit Company Award winners were selected based on their commitment to best practices in worksite wellness, unique or creative ideas that encourage a culture of health at the workplace, clarity and consistency of employee health promotion and communications, and employee participation and engagement levels in wellness initiatives. Judges included leading wellness experts from American Speciality Health (ASH) and top-ranked organizations outside of ASH.


2012 Silver Fit Company Award - Healthyroads

The Healthyroads Fit Company Award program recognizes organizations nationwide that are leaders in the areas of employee wellness and preventive healthcare, and that demonstrate their commitment to wellness by offering exceptional employee wellness benefits and services.


2005 California Fit Business – California Task Force on Youth and Workplace Wellness

The California Task Force on Youth and Workplace Wellness recognizes the County of Mendocino for their efforts in encouraging employee wellness and creating a healthy workplace. This award was created to recognize employers who model and value employee health at the workplace. The Task Force salutes efforts to promote the health of employees by employers of any size.
