Apiary

All beekeepers within the county are required to register their colonies with the County Commissioner. The purpose of registration is designed to bring beekeepers and pesticide applicators together by tracking and safeguarding hive locations across California. Beekeepers can register at their County Department of Agriculture or through Calagpermits/BeeWhere. The registration fee is $10 per beekeeper. Beekeepers are also required to make notifications to the county of origin and destination county, within 72 hours of any hive movement. Beekeepers can register through BeeWhere to receive bee-toxic pesticide application notifications from growers that have commercial crops within a mile of the beehive locations.

California requirements for industrial hemp cultivation can be found in Division 24 of the California Food and Agricultural Code (FAC) and in Title 3 of the California Code of Regulations (CCR). It is important to understand the cultivation requirements outlined in laws and regulations. Information is available from the California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) website at:

In accordance with FAC Sections 81003 and 81004 and CCR Section 4901, industrial hemp growers and breeders are required to register with the county agricultural commissioner prior to planting. Mendocino County Ordinance Chapter 10A.18 places additional restrictions on industrial hemp cultivation above state requirements:
