The County of Mendocino, in collaboration with the Ukiah Valley Fire Authority (UVFA), will begin proactive fire mitigation work at Low Gap Park this Monday, August 4th to reduce wildfire risks and enhance public safety.

Starting Monday, UVFA crews will initiate the first phase of work focused on mowing and trimming high grass near the park’s back gate, along the residential border. This initial effort will involve only hand tools—no heavy equipment will be used. The work is expected to take a few days and will be completed in manageable sections to minimize disruption to park visitors and nearby residents. The map included highlights the area outlined in red where work will be taking place during this phase.

Future phases will include additional vegetation management, including trimming and the removal of hazardous tree limbs throughout the park. These preventative measures are a critical part of the County’s ongoing efforts to protect public spaces and surrounding neighborhoods from the growing threat of wildfires.

The County appreciates the public’s patience and cooperation as this important safety work gets underway.
