Events and Programs for June 2022
The Mendocino County Museum welcomes the public to join us for special programs and events during the month of June.
- June 4, 12:00 – 4:00 pm: Bear in Mind: the Story of the California Grizzly Exhibit Opening – Explore Californians’ relationship with the grizzly bear and its role in California’s history. The exhibition is produced and toured by Exhibit Envoy, and based on the Heyday Books publication, Bear in Mind: The California Grizzly by Susan Snyder, as well as The Bancroft Library exhibition of the same name.
- June 4, 1:00 – 3:00 pm: DIY Animal Tracks– Join us as we kick off Bear in Mind: the Story of the California Grizzly by making clay animal track impressions. Use your own paws or select from our collection of animal track casts. This program is free to the public and open to all ages.
- June 11, 1:00 – 3:30 pm: 50th Anniversary Celebration – The community is invited to explore a pop-up “memory lane” exhibit featuring images and artifacts that span five decades of Museum collections and programs. A celebratory cake cutting ceremony will kick off the festivities at 1:00. Staff and volunteers will offer Behind the Scenes Tours from 1:30-3:30.This event is free to the public, open to all ages, and is sponsored by the Friends of the Mendocino County Museum and the Mendocino County Museum
- June 17, 5:00 – 8:00 pm: Outreach Station at Willits Hometown Celebration! – Visit the Mendocino County Museum table at Willits’ Hometown Celebration. Discover our new Virtual Walking Tour inspired by the Then and Now exhibit curated by Kim Bancroft and Judi Berdis, learn about upcoming events and programs, and snap a photo at our selfie station!
- June 18-19, 12:00-4:00: All About Dad – This Father’s Day weekend create an oral history that celebrates the dad(s) or father figures in your life. An “All about Dad” keepsake template will be provided. Bring your family and document your dad’s history.
- June 24, 4:00 – 6:00 pm: Frontier Days Photo Op! – We are rolling out a stage coach so you can strike a pose! Stop by on the way to the Frontier Days Truck and Tractor Pull and take a photo in front of this former Frontier Days Parade star.
- June 25, 5:00 – 7:00 pm: Art Walk Evening Hours – Museum staff welcome the public to join us for Summer Art Walk – Downtown Willits. Our galleries and current exhibit, Bear in Mind: the Story of the California Grizzly, will be open for regular admission. Watercolors and drawings by Mendocino Community College students will be on display.
